View I was in a novelty store in Dallas at the end of November, 2006. From the ceiling they had rainbow windsocks in every imaginable size. I looked at them, then went on to browsing other things in the store. Suddenly my eyes darted back up and I went chasing around the store to locate the correct one I'd seen earlier. I knew I needed it for Pride. I had to take the whole thing apart and sew it all back together again, because although it was 'close' it wasn't quite the right size. And also, the stripes that ran in a circle around the top end were way too wide. So I had to both make the circle slightly smaller, and make the stripes around the top narrower. It took a couple of hours to re-sew the windsock, but when done it was perfect. And talk about a simple Sunday! It took about 30 seconds to get tucked into it, and I was ready to go. I had one more new addition for this year. You can see it only in fair photos. I had bought a nylon camera case and sewed a velcro band to it that wrapped around my ankle. It kept my hands free 'cause it was big enough to put all my crap into! So when wandering around the fair grounds I wasn't fumbling with stuff. A great idea I think. And this really was a great costume, though I learned early in the parade that I had to be careful jumping up from my curb seat. If one of the tails caught under my foot as I stood I could pull the thing off in half a second! but that was the only issue with this very comfortable outfit. Everyone kept grabbing the ends to look up the windsock, or at least motion as if they were going to. I've learned that each costume gets the same reaction or comment or question repeated over and over and over and over again. Turns out that people all think the same! It's fun though 'cause I still get the unique reactions on each face. |
